Why does BMW has 328i 2007 instead of 325i?

I want to know why the model changes of number from 328i to 325i, apparently only in the USA, because in other contries it still the same model.

It actually went from 325 to a 328 in 2007 in the us. It is the same 3.0 litre engine but its tuned a bit differently which increases the horsepower to 230 from 215. The 330 is now replaced with the 335 twin turbo. The last 2 numbers on the cars denote the engine. So a 325 and 525 would have the same engine. The 08 5 series will have the new engines They should be arriv\ing at the dealerships starting in April or May.

Displacement due to US emision laws/fuel ecconomy.
john w is spot on with his answer
i agree with the person above
they like to switch back and forth between body style changes and facelifts. it doesn't always designate a bigger or smaller engine although there are usually tuning changes electronically and from different emission equipment.
