If I have the car chipped, what difference can that make to the performance, are there other perfomance options

This site has extensive descriptions and photos of a heavily modified 540i.

Normally, it allow you to push your car beyond 140mph. As for performance, the chip isn't flexible enough to configure your component. So it ASSUMES that you have exhaust, intake, and all other systems modified. If not, it will actually hurt your engine performance. Because of the engine enhancement, you also need high quality fuel (93+)
That depends on what kind of chip your going to install. They have chips to increase timming, change the fuel ratio, increase air intake, raise the idle, control injecter timming. The problem with chiping is if you have emission standards in your state you will have to put the factory chip back in before you go for testing.

Other performance options which are more expensive is to add an inner cooler and install a turbo if they are available by BMW or a performance shop. You can type in turbos for BMW and see what you come up with on the internet.

Other options are to get a performance shift kit for your trans. and a performance tourque converter. But all of this is expensive and you will have to get some one well experienced in the transmission high performance field.

Another cheeper way is get low profile tires

which would add about another 10 horse power.

Sincerely yours,

Fred M. Hunter
