Depends how fast you want to go and how much fuel you're willing to put in it. I'd have to say the 'optimum' 5-sreies is probably one of the bigger petrol sixes or a 530d, in SE or Sport trim in a nice, dark metallic. The V8s aren't significantly faster, don't handle as well, and cost a lot more to fuel, and maintain, while the smaller sixes do struggle a bit with such a heavy car, particularly with the automatic transmission option, which means their fuel consumption is little better than the bigger engines.

OK, if I had to pick an ideal spec, I'd have a facelift model (X plate onwards) 530i Sport Auto, dark blue metallic with cream leather and the 18" M5-style alloys.

Hey, I'm from the Uk and over here the 530d or 525/528 are mostly popular..

Just go for one after 200 a 530d or a 525... with all the M-tech extras!
I believe 535i are very power full and good to run, but if you can afford M5 then whats stopping you!? they are just fabulous!

good luck
530d, just as fast as the 530i, much more usable power. M5 is great but has high running costs.
