On my 86 528E the cruise control stalk came loose, does anyone know how to get into the column to fix it?

pop out the center horn button, get a 22mm half inch socket ratchet and a 6 inch extension. Remove the big nut. Turn the key to the on position and pull the steering wheel off. mostly just the screw in there comes loose so tighten both screws you see. If you lost the screw bang on the bottom of the steering column till it drops or maybe its on the floor behind the gas petal. Sometimes the black plastic part of the steering column is bigger than usual and you will have to remove the 3 screws and drop down the cover a bit.
