Do BMW's have a higher than normal repair rate?

Thinking about a 2001-2004, 325I. Are repair costs higher than similar European or Japanese makes and models?

The model that you have chosen is one of the most reliable models of BMW. And it is not over-engineered like the newer models (which have all sorts of control modules, sensors, actuators and software programs that can go bad).

But yes, it can be slightly costlier than Asian cars for several reasons: a) the deutchsmark is costlier than the japanese yen, thus the parts costs more.

b) bmw uses cutting-edge technology which naturally costs more and has more chances of going bad (in contrast to asian cars which mostly uses hand-me-down technology that are naturally more reliable).

And no, it is not costlier when compared to top of the line european cars.

But ultimately, a BMW costs more to buy, maintain and repair than an "ordinary" car. How much more costly depends on your choice of model, your kind of driving and where you use it, and your maintenance efforts.

A BMW is not for everybody. But a lot of people love it.
