1984 BMW 318i wont go past 2000 rpm, replaced fuel filter?

Hello i have a 1984 BMWs with a M10. The car was lagging so i replaced one hose and fuel filter and it fixed the problem running really great. This morning going to work it wouldn't go past 2000 rpm it would surge and thunk at 2k would not go above. So I moved the hose around and it went past 2k well but it started doing it on and off. The hose is slightly longer then the original. Conning output of the fuel filter so some metal thing that connects to the line. Could that be clogged the metal thing or is hose to long. I dont think its the fuel pump.

replaced the hose that comes out of the fuel filter. Gas flows out. Same size hose just a bit longer. Same size opening too. no tight bends just a curve. Should I shorten it?

I'm going to speculate that the fuel pressure regulator isn't working right because of something you did to the lines.

Different problem all together. look at vacuum leaks and also the throttle position sensor. you might go have the computer read at a auto parts store. this will tell you if there are any codes locked in the computer. the MIL does not always come on.
I would suspect tha cat. converter. Go to an exhaust shop and get it checked.
