being a first car? NO Beammer.
There is no BMW that is a good first car. The older ones have handling problems in the wet (BMW twitch) that makes them downright dangerous in inexperienced hands. Newer models have far too much power for the inexperienced driver. Possible exception would be the 318i, if you can even find one.

A base model Mercedes C-Class is far more suitable. Good handling with no surprises and decent but not excessive power combined with excellent crash survivability make it a much better choice for the new driver wanting top-shelf German engineering.
2003 BMW 325i (Be careful with this car, you don't want to reck it, I myself would recommend easing into something less fancy, once you gain the skill then you should think about a nicer car.)
