I'm in the market for a used 3 series and noticing this but not sure what the differences are. They both look alike with the same packaging. Thanks for your help.

The "x" in the 330xi is for the xDrive all-wheel drive system. The xDrive is about a $2,000 option on the 3-series.
The x line for BMW is farely new, and all it means is that the car is all wheel drive. That is why the BMW SUV's are both the X3 and X5.
Xi is all wheel drive and is a little heavier.
By getting xi, you can drive better in the rain and snow (not too deep or fresh), but may lose a little bit of handling (curve and steering). Xi is supposed to be a little higher than i.
I personally just test drove 325 and 525 xi and loved it. I don't feel that xi is less smooth than i. I prefer the xi because we can't always drive on the clear, clean and dry road. I just like the idea that xi can handle less than ideal driving conditions on the road.
