What does bmw mean?

The real (and proper) explanation is Bavarian Motor Works, or in German, it's Bayerische Motoren Werke BUT (and unfortunately) in certain parts of the less civilised parts of the country, it's "Black mans' wheels" - and DON'T start calling me racist - I'm only the messenger ! ! !

Bayerische Motoren Werke (in German)
british motor works
Bayerische Motoren Werke AG, or in English, Bavarian Motor Works, is an independent German company and manufacturer of automobiles and motorcycles.

In German, the abbreviation BMW is pronounced "beh emm veh". This is often pronounced as one word. In North America, BMW automobiles are referred to as "beemers" -- although enthusiasts call them "bimmers", reserving the original "beemer" nomenclature for BMW motorcycles. In the United Kingdom the abbreviation 'BM' is widely used. In the rest of the world mainly the pronunciation "bee emm double-u" is used.
