oil change time?
OK First with the Engine Cold Remove the Radiator Cap, any Foam (Pinkish is a Cracked Transmission Cooler Line in the Radiator "Replace") or Rust on the Underside of the Cap Replace it! With the Cap Still Off Start the Engine, after a Minute or so do you Smell Exhaust in the Radiator? "Yes" Bad Head Gasket. Condition of Hoses; If Cracked or Feel Overly Soft When Warm Replace them! Might need to Flush/Boil out Cooling System and add New Coolant (50-50 Clean Water %26 Anti-Freeze)! Check for Condition of Belts %26 Possible Leak at Water Pump!
Old 7 series BMW's are notorious for their upkeep prices. The first thing I would do is an oil change, switch to a good fully synthetic oil such as Amisol or Redline, there are many others. You want a good oil because it will help cool your engine as it circulates through. The next thing I would do is a coolant change, this will also keep your car from rusting. Do a 50-50 mix of coolant and distilled water. ideally, this should be done every 2 years at the most. I am posting the link to a website below. It has various service recalls for your vehicle, these are know problems the dealer should cover, but maybe not 16 years later. However, if what I suggested does not work your problem may be here since cooling issues seem to be listed a couple of times.

Go to a mechanic.. that is your only answer man
listen bro, go to a mechanic. only he can help you professionally. peace!!
do a pressure check on the cooling system to see if it has a leak , , you can do a compression test too to see which cylinder might be leaking, if it is not leaking anywhere and the thermostat is new the sending unit/ sensor for the temp guage may be bad ? check the fans to make sure they are coming on too, otherwise get a bottle of ( koolit) it will lower your operating temp 20 degrees
